Simurgh
Simurgh, is a legendary bird in Persian mythology, represents wisdom, unity, and the collective strength of many—a perfect metaphor for a global surgery initiative that brings together diverse expertise to solve complex challenges. In the Epic of the Persian Kings- Shahnameh (c. 977 and 1010 CE Ferdowsi), Simurgh performed a Cesarean Section (C-section) to save the life of a pregnant woman (Rudaba) and her baby (Rostam) who grows up to be one of the heroes of the book. C-section is the number one performed and needed surgery around the world today.
